Felt it was a fine example of English journalism….appreciated your wide perspective, and how much knowledge
you gathered and presented with vitality.

Felt I was maybe reading Herman Melville!I

Thanks. Because of you, I didn’t have to miss the whole thing.🤧😱

Can’t sonar detect these giant creatures in the vicinity of the lane? Even so-it is my hope that she did not suffer. My heart breaks at the thought of her in pain and of not being able to understand how to help herself. Was she a momma? We will never know.

And I too was awed by the presence of this amazing being. I think they are trying to design the shipping lanes into the bay to reduce the potential for these accidents. It is a reminder of how precious and vulnerable marine life is on this planet.

Comment on Politics and Philosophy in Paris by Marty Hs http://angleofvision.org/2017/05/15/politics-and-philosophy-in-paris/#comment-1475 Tue, 16 May 2017 15:41:13 +0000 http://angleofvision.org/?p=249#comment-1475 This post covers so much ‘ground’ it’s difficult to craft a ‘walking stick’ to support an amble across it. Beginning simply, I didn’t ‘hear’ the Story. For me, that’s all that ‘matters’ now — A Story. Having been deeply affected by Fr. Teilhard (yes, he was a ‘father figure’ for me) while away at college in the desert of New Mexico, I sought a re-telling of the Christian Story that my Soul could LIVE BY. Unfortunately, his law of complexitiy-consciousness and The Omega Point never were ‘enough’ to guide me into his Divine Milieu. He suffered from the oppressive weight of the ‘scientific’ myth, the single (linear) vision of ‘Newton’s Sleep’. His attempt at an alchemical mixing of paleontology and the priesthood, philosophically bold and intriguing as it was, left me without a narrative of substance, of Matter — it didn’t quite matter.
Then there was Joseph Campbell many years later who impishly, cleverly and with an astounding scholarship (thank you Bill Moyers!) brought me home to just where Story lives — in Myth. We are in Search of a Myth, he averred. After ploughing through many of his ground-breaking works, bits and pieces of a Story began to take shape. The Story had to answer only one question: What is Man. All else would fall into place.
And from Campbell I was led to Jung. Here was the Imaginal World opened wide and deep, the Place Myth is birthed and sent into the World to tell what Matters. This is the connection of Spirit to Matter — in Psyche. It is the Imaginatrix of Henry Corbin. But, sadly for me, Jung fell under the same deadly weight of the ‘scientific’ myth, insisting all too strongly his was a ‘scientific’ endeavor while all the time being a closet Mystic. So I took to reading Jung between the lines — and Hillman. His prodigious intellect took my mind prisoner and by some ‘magic’ I probably will never understand, opened my heart — Athena born of Zeus’s head. And who was Hillman so profoundly influenced by…
And, yes, Corbin led me to the Shaykh al Akbar. Being a ‘loner’, finally getting a glimpse of “The Alone” lifted one veil and another aspect of The Story came dancing from the Mists.
Finally. For me, it’s the Poets who will ‘save us’. We are now in a battle between ‘techne’ and ‘poiesis’ — just HOW to MAKE the World. And that will answer the question, What is Man. Is this man to ‘be’ nothing but a ‘crafter’ (techne), a ‘manipulator’ of matter, satisfying nothing but his endless desires for pleasure and happiness — a ‘story’ signifying nothing. Or, will this Man awake to a ‘seeing’ — “Just such a retrospect/Hath the perfected life,/a past of plank and nail,/And slowness, -then the scaffolds drop-/Affirming it a soul.
Find your Tale — stop chasing it.

I have pondered on this since then, being a home dad looking after my family. Today I got your notification by mail and yesterday I spent the day reading the Assisi declarations (after a long weekend of Cub Scout camp) and being a storey teller myself agree it is well past time for a new story to be told. Have the religions ever signed up to one story? Your help on a place or people to go to to start learning old stories and turning them into new ones that the EU can learn from would be great. Wishing you happiness and health from Brussels. Christian
